Abu Dhabi: A family in Abu Dhabi was shocked to see a bloodied bandage in a pizza ordered from a fast-food outlet late on Tuesday.

“I started to eat it, but spat the bandage out of my mouth,” Ahmad Sameer, 13, told Gulf News.

“My mother and I started to throw up,” he said.

“When we checked the rest of the pizza, we found blood in it,” said Sameer.

The family had ordered two pizzas from Southern Fried Chicken on Hamdan Street and had eaten one.

“We found the bandage and blood in the second one,” he said.

Help sought

The six-member family sought help from a hospital and also reported the matter.

“We went to a government hospital where we were examined and medicines were prescribed for two of us,” said the father of the family.

“I complained to the police and showed the remaining pizza contaminated with bandage and blood,” he said.

Later, he submitted the contaminated food to Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) with a complaint and a police report.

ADFCA told Gulf News that it received the complaint. “We will investigate the matter thoroughly and take legal action, if any violation is found,” said Mohammad Jalal Al Reyaysa, Manager of the Information and Communication Department.

Southern Franchise Company LLC, which runs Southern Fried Chicken, said they are investigating the complaint.
