SUBJECT : New Compensation and Benefits Package
Further to the Chairman’s memo dated 23 October 2007 on the new
Compensation and Benefits package approved by the Board of Directors in
their meeting on 22 October 2007, we are pleased to announce the following
highlights of the new package:
1. Salary grades.
With effect from 1 November 2007, we shall adopt the new salary grade
structure comprising 20 grades from grade 10 (lowest) to grade 29 (highest)
to replace the existing grades.
2. Migration to the new grade
10% increase in the current basic salary will be effected for all
employees across the board including GTs, Trainees and Academic
Staff, with approximate average increase of 25% in the total package.
There are cases where the basic salary will increase by 30-40% or
more due to migration.
Individual employees will be migrated to the minimum of their
appropriate new grades on the basis of job evaluation, expertise and
performance criteria.
3. Allowances and Benefits
A. Housing Allowance
Due to migration to the new grades, there will be increase in the
housing allowance.
For expatriate employees in grades 19 and above, the maximum limits
for Abu Dhabi and Dubai Cities have been increased to reflect market
rates as per attachment 1.
For expatriate staff in grades 18 and below based in Abu Dhabi and
Dubai Cities, housing allowance has been enhanced and will be paid at
flat rate for each grade instead of as a percentage of basic (
attachment-2).
Female married employees will be paid housing allowance on par with
male married staff as applicable to the respective grades. Divorced
and widowed female employees with children shall be entitled to
housing allowance as applicable to married staff.
B. Special Housing Support
Special Housing Support will be provided to UAE Nationals currently
not covered by the Accommodation Assistance Allowance as indicated in
the attachment 3. This policy will be applicable for UAE National
employees posted at Abu Dhabi and Dubai Cities only at 50% of the
relevant existing Accommodation Assistance allowance.
C. Accommodation Assistance Allowance
In addition to GTs in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, GTs in Dubai will also be
paid Accommodation Assistance Allowance as below:

The Accommodation Assistance Allowance for male married UAE National
staff in grades 18 and below shall be increased from AED 35,000 per
year to AED 50,000 per year for Abu Dhabi Region and from AED 18,000
to AED 45,000 per year for Dubai Region.
National Staff posted at Sharjah and Ajman locations but not having
home base in Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain or Ajman will be paid
Accommodation Assistance and Furnishing Allowance at applicable rates
for their grades irrespective of their home base being 75 kms from
workplace or not.
D. Children’s Education Allowance
Children’s Educational allowance has been increased as indicated
below:

maximum of two children.
However employees shall be eligible to combine and apply the overall
limit for one or more children subject to actuals.
E. Car Allowance
Car allowance has been increased as follows:
Grade 26 and above – Dhs. 225,000
Grade 24 & 25 – Dhs. 180,000
Grade 23 – Dhs. 140,000
UAE Nationals will continue to be paid once every four years and
expatriate employees will be paid as a pro-rated monthly allowance
as per eligibility.
F. Building Loan for UAE National employees
Building loan limits have been increase for certain categories as
follows:

Employees can combine applicable telephone rebates for fixed line and
mobiles. Other conditions regarding service telephone provision
remain unchanged.
H. Overseas Travel Allowance
Overseas travel allowance for Business/Training trips has been
increased significantly as shown below:

unchanged.
4. Annual Increment Policy
Annual increments to employees has been enhanced and will be based on
their actual Basic salaries instead of on the minimum of their Salary
Grade. This will result in increase in the annual increment amount.
For employees who have reached the maximum of their grade, lump sum
annual increment payment will be made every year on the basis of
their performance rating.
5. HR Manual
Necessary changes will be effected in the provisions of HR Manual.
